All form fields are required. About album: Fifth disease in a 2 year old male. This is a disease that is caused by a virus called parvovirus B19. Symptoms include fever (low grade) fatigue, a " slapped cheeks rash" and rash all over the body. It is a mild illness in healthy children, but it can be serious in immunocompromised individuals. This virus can temporarily interfere with the production of red blood cells, hence causing anemia. 80% of adults with this disease can have joint aches which may become long term. Pregnant women, who have not been affected previously affected by the disease, should avoid contact with patients with fifth disease because it can infect the fetus prior to birth and cause death of the unborn fetus. |
