In children, bacterial conjunctivitis is more common than the viral form, and is mainly caused by H influenzae, S pneumoniae, and Moraxella catarrhalis. Whereas in adults, viral conjunctivitis is more common and the most common bacteria are Staphylococcus, followed by Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae. Treatment is by antibiotic eye drops or ointments. Results are very good. |
